The Artist behind the Canvas
My creative process is an intimate dialogue between emotion and medium. Working with oils and acrylics, I layer movement and light to evoke an emotional connection . Every stroke on the canvas is a reflective journey into the pigments, capturing the raw, archival beauty of life and natural forms.
Terri Giesen is an Australian visual artist based on Bribie Island, Moreton Bay, Queensland- where she is surrounded by beautiful beaches, clear skies and lush bushland -all of which are sources of inspiration and meditation for her art.
Terri’s focus in her work is the response to nature’s beauty, and her desire to share that beauty and interest with the viewer. Her aim is, to quote the famous Romantic Era musician Robert Schumann-“To send light into the darkness of men’s hearts-such is the duty of an artist.”- so as to bring inspiration, emotional clarity and insight to the viewer of her work.
Terri’s work depicts the play of light on an object and how it shows texture, colour, depth, fluidity, shadow and contrast -as well as an emotional connection.
Terri’s life from an early age has focused heavily on The Arts-dance, music and visual arts. She has had a successful career as a highly qualified musician and music teacher in both New Zealand and Australia. Her current focus is predominantly on visual arts-oils and acrylics paintings.
Terri’s work is exhibited at BICAS gallery, Sutherland Drive, Bribie Island.
Terri has been under the tutelage of Australian artists including Patricia Taylor, John Wilson, Herman Pekel and Leon Holmes. She is very interested in the correlation of the scientific connections of music and art with acoustics, vibrations, colour and Fibonacci principles of form, composition and balance.
